Freon & Refrigerant Gas

Refrigerant gas supplied, charged and recovered — properly.

Freon supply, gas charging and top-ups, leak detection and repair, recovery and reclaim, and conversions to modern refrigerants — carried out safely on industrial and commercial systems.

Overview

The gas your plant runs on.

"Freon" is the name most people use for the refrigerant gases that move heat around an air-conditioning or refrigeration system. Get the charge wrong — too little, too much, or the wrong gas entirely — and efficiency drops, compressors fail early and running costs climb.

VeeKay supplies, charges, tests and recovers refrigerant across the full range in common use: R22, R410A, R134a, R404A, R407C, R507 and R32. Every job starts with identifying the correct gas and finding out where any losses are going — not simply topping up and moving on.

  • Genuine, correctly specified refrigerant gas
  • Charge set to the manufacturer's specification
  • Leaks traced and repaired, not repeatedly topped up
  • Recovered gas contained and reclaimed — never vented

Our Refrigerant Services

Everything your system's refrigerant needs

From a single cylinder to a full plant conversion — supplied, fitted and documented.

Refrigerant Gas Supply

R22, R410A, R134a, R404A, R407C, R507 and R32 supplied in cylinders to suit the job.

Charging & Top-Ups

Systems charged by weight to the manufacturer's spec, then performance-checked under load.

Leak Detection & Repair

Electronic detection, nitrogen pressure testing and UV tracing to find losses — then a proper repair.

Recovery & Reclaim

Old or contaminated gas recovered into dedicated cylinders for reclaim or controlled disposal.

Gas Conversions & Retrofits

Ageing R22 plant converted to modern alternatives, with oil changes and component checks.

Cylinder Handling & Records

Correct storage, transport and logging of quantities added or recovered on every visit.

Gases We Handle

Common refrigerants and where they're used

Not sure which one your plant runs on? Send us the data plate and we'll confirm it.

R410A · R32

Modern air conditioning

Split, ducted and VRV/VRF systems in offices, retail and hospitality. R32 offers a lower global-warming potential.

R134a · R404A · R507

Commercial refrigeration

Coldrooms, freezer rooms, display cabinets, chillers and cold-chain plant.

R22 · R407C

Legacy & transitional plant

Older installations still running R22, and R407C as a common retrofit route as R22 is phased out.

Why VeeKay

Refrigerant handled by refrigeration engineers.

01

Qualified Technicians

Gas work is done by trained refrigeration technicians who understand the whole system — not just the cylinder.

02

Root Cause, Not Repeat Top-Ups

If a system is losing gas, we find out why. Chasing the leak costs less than refilling it every few months.

03

Environmentally Responsible

Recovery equipment on every job. Refrigerant is contained and reclaimed — releasing it to atmosphere is never an option.

04

Safe & Compliant Handling

Storage, transport and charging carried out in line with current refrigerant-handling and safety standards.

05

Documented Every Time

Gas type, quantity added or recovered, readings and findings recorded — so you have a proper service history.

Our Process

How a refrigerant call-out runs

01

Identify

We confirm the refrigerant type, system size and correct charge weight before touching anything.

02

Test

Pressures, superheat, subcooling and leak checks tell us what the system is actually doing.

03

Repair

Any leak is repaired and the system evacuated and vacuum-tested before new gas goes in.

04

Charge

Refrigerant charged by weight, then the system is run and verified under real operating load.

05

Record

Gas type, quantities and readings logged, with recommendations if further work is needed.

Freon FAQs

Common refrigerant questions

What exactly is Freon?
Freon is a well-known brand name that has become shorthand for the refrigerant gases used in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. In practice it covers a family of gases — R22, R410A, R134a, R404A, R407C, R32 and others — each suited to different equipment.
Which refrigerant gas does my system use?
It's usually printed on the unit's data plate. If that's missing or unreadable, our technicians identify the correct gas on site before any charging is done — mixing refrigerants damages equipment and voids warranties.
My unit keeps losing gas. Should I just top it up?
No. Refrigerant is a sealed charge — a system that keeps losing gas has a leak. Repeated top-ups waste money and let refrigerant escape. We find and repair the leak first, then recharge to specification.
Can I still get R22 for my older system?
R22 is an ozone-depleting HCFC being phased out internationally, so supply is limited and costs climb over time. We'll advise whether converting to a modern alternative such as R410A or R407C, or replacing the equipment, works out better for you.
What happens to the old gas you remove?
It's recovered into dedicated cylinders using recovery equipment — never vented to atmosphere — and then sent for reclaim or controlled disposal.
How often should refrigerant be checked?
At every planned maintenance visit. For critical industrial and cold-chain plant that typically means quarterly; for commercial air conditioning, at least annually.
